Device Shows Made-Up Images

JAPAN: A new technology that displays a customer’s face made up with their selected lipstick or eyeshadow is spreading to department store cosmetic counters.

A customer turns to a camera where the Real-Time Makeup Simulator’s built-in software recognizes the shapes of the eyebrows, eyes, lips and other facial features. When the customer places IC tag-incorporated cosmetics over an electronic reader, simulated images of her face wearing with the cosmetics appear on its monitor.

The terminal for the simulator, developed by Shiseido Co., has been installed at 30 department stores. The leading cosmetics maker hopes in the future to allow customers to use a similar system compatible with cell phones.
